#1 > HANG MORE FEEDERS!
- During the Fall Migration Hummers need to drink a lot of Nectar for the long Flight back to their Winter Homes in Mexico & Central America
- The return Flight could be up to 2000 miles!
- Hanging more Feeders will help the Hummers 'Fuel-up' quickly
- It's important that they have an easy Nectar Source of Food
HUMMERS NEED TO DOUBLE THEIR BODY WEIGHT FOR THE LONG FLIGHT
- They need to store up extra Energy from Nectar as they move South
- Hummers will need to increase their body weight by 25-50%!
- From 3.25 grams to 6 grams!
- Feeder & Flower Nectar can provide an excellent Fuel Source
YOU COULD SEE A SWARM OF FEEDER ACTIVITY BETWEEN SEPT & OCT
- The Hummers that are Migrating South will be stopping by for a 'Fuel-up'
- They remember every Flower & Feeder they've been to, so they'll be back!
- This increase is also due to the additional new Young Hummingbirds
PROVIDE FALL FLOWER NECTAR SOURCES
- Trumpet Honeysuckle, Zinneas, Salvia, Penstemons, Monarda & more
- See what is available near you
BEST NECTAR RECIPE FOR FEEDERS
- Mix 1 part refined white Sugar & 4 parts cold water until dissolved
- Extra Sugar Water can be stored in the refrigerator
- Change the Nectar every 2-3 days
- Don't use Nectar mixes with red dye
- Only use refined white Sugar (table sugar). Anything else is toxic.
- Ratio 4:1
TIPS FOR CLEANING (2x week)
- Empty all Nectar (+ dispose)
- Take apart
- Hand wash with warm water & mild soap
- Scrub well to remove residue & mold
- Rinse with cold water
- Air dry before Refilling
LEAVING FEEDERS UP WILL NOT DELAY MIGRATION
- Hummingbirds follow their Instincts to Migrate
- Feeders won't keep them from Migrating
WHEN SHOULD YOU TAKE DOWN FEEDERS?
- November (2 weeks after your last Hummer Sighting)
- Clean & pack away until next Spring
KEEP YOUR HUMMERS SAFE & HEALTHY!
